About this Practice
Displaced but still holistic.
In late December 2007 when IndigoHouse, an NEW FARM icon suddenly closed with only a week’s notice, and all thirty something of the multi-modal health practitioners spilled into the nearby area seeking to rehouse, I was fortunate enough to find a space not too far from the much loved blue house on Brunswick Street. I was very keen not to confuse or distress my clients any more than was entirely unavoidable given the situation and so felt blesses by the availability of the new location. For a time I shared the space with a couple of other practitioners until they found their own space.
This is a “sole practitioner” practice which means that I practise by myself and I have my own admin staff, although I share the greater space in the Professional Suites above Cibo Coffee lounge with a couple of relationship/process counsellors, with whom I have had the pleasure of working in other settings, the Fred Hollow’s Foundation and a podiatrist. Quite an array of services with a comfortably air-conditioned waiting room.
We share the floor with a hairdressing salon, a dentist, and a jeweller, so there are always comings and going in our corner of the world. My clients tell me they enjoy the location, as it is convenient to Cole’s, boutiques and lots of great coffee and restaurants. I too feel quite spoiled by the location; the envy of my colleagues working elsewhere. I thank the great location for the growth of the practice over the last year.
In keeping with its history as a part of the holistic health practice of indigoHouse, this Merthyr Village practice is as much about holistic positive psychology (that is positive work-life balance, personal growth and development of self, couple, family or group, career and life goals and transitions) as it is about clinical issues such as depression or anxiety, or addictive behaviours.
A follower of positive psychology, the values which underpin my work include belief in every individual’s intrinsic value regardless of achievement, and a belief in our capacity to maximise their potential once the restraints are identified and problem solved. I work with a firm belief in and commitment to the resilience of the human spirit, and a strengths and solutions focus. I work with the individual or group within the context in which they find themselves with a focus on learned optimism, creativity and hope in pursuit of positive change. I am interested in pursuing what works well to enhance life and relationships and happiness.I am interested in the relationship of challenge and self-care to the experience of flow/mastery/satisfaction and well being.
I find my work a joy and a privilege. My clients open many windows into the world and life, and these many vistas enhance my personal and professional perspectives. I thank you all in advance.
I use a range of therapeutic models including
- Strengths-based solution Focused Therapy,
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (CBT) including the holistic Third Wave CBT which includes concepts such as holistic balance of the mind-body, and practices such as mindfulness and presence in the now.
